Is Paypal still working in India?

I am working in Merchant Navy. Please advise me my income tax benefits in India. I stay 180 days out of India?

  • I am working in Merchant Navy getting paid in US Dollar about 1500 USD a month plus incentives. I always stay out of India about 180 days or more every year . Wheather I am taxable in India or not. If not by which authority or if yes what i should do. I don't have income tax file or never file any return as no body asks me to do so. I have NRE accaunt in State Bank. My bank manager told me that I think you are not taxable in India because you are staying out of India 180 days or more. please reply. Thankyou

  • Answer:

it is almost a general rukle in most countries, that you are only liable for income tax, if you are resident for more than 180 days, same in australia. I would not wake sleeping dogs however. your bank manager would know. just don't file any official papers, unless asked to. if asked, go to an experieved tax advisor. keep record of your travel in and out of india. I don't think they keep electronic records as in AU. just have your passport stamped, whenever you pass a foreigs border!
