How to become income tax officer ?

1) By taking up the competitive exams conducted by the SSC for Tax Assistant, Stenographer and Inspectors for central government departments. Depending upon the marks obtained, SSC allots the departments to the successful candidates based on the priority given by the candidates. Later, by taking up the departmental examinations, these officials (TA, Steno & Inspectors) will become ITOs on subsequent promotions. 2)Other way is to appear for UPSC examinations i.e. civil services examinations and again here also, depending upon the marks scored and preferences given, department is allotted. These candidates are group 'A' officers i.e. Asst. Commissioners of Income tax. As such, there is no direct recruitment for the post of Income Tax Officer.

The Staff Selection Commission (S.S.C.) conducts examination every year for recruitment to Income Tax Department. The examination is held once a year, generally in the month of April. Blank application forms and other particulars are usually published in the Employment News. The examination comprises: (i) Written examination (ii) Interview for Personality Test for such candidates as may qualify in the written test. The subjects of the examination are as follows: General Intelligence General English Arithmetical Ability General Awareness

There is no specific formulas to be a tax officer.
