What is Fijian culture like?

Do you hate having to share your culture with others in america(blacks)?

  • If your too lazy to read, then don't answer at all because your gonna say something that has NOTHING to do with what Im talking about and sound ignorant and off topic because the title isn't what the question is about… Lazy = leave. thnx They say immitation is the greatest form of flattery… But when everyone is copying us it makes it hard for us to stand out as a culture because everyone plays and sings our music which eventually we grow bored with and other cultures start to dominate in the music industry(rock, pop is getting old so we are dropping it, soul music isn't as popular as it use to be and thats being taken up by non blacks too "ever heard of blue eyed soul?")… I mean, how do the chinese identify from the japanese? their culture is different and the japanese don't have to worry about other cultures copying them and even when they do copy them you know for a fact that its japanese culture because only the japanese have that music, those customs, that style and they pretty much put their "this is japanese" label on it so that when you see some else doing it you can assume "eitehr that person is obsessed with japanese culture and is trying to be like them, or he grow up around them" but their culture is defined and when others copy it theres no question where they got that style from.. Blacks have to share our music with other americans, I see movies that have black culture in it with mostly white actors…(like watching and asian movie with NO asians in it, you see the asian culture, but where are the asians in this movie.)… Almost every genre in america except for a good few started with our culture and ended with us getting bored with it and another culture taking it up… which music is just music, but when other countries hear it played they don't say "this is ___genre of music and it was tradition back in _____year__ to be played and is unique to african american culture" because everything we do gets lumped in with everyone else, they say "Oh, thats just american music." :/ I'ma get some idiot who says "every cultures takes from another" but those culture still have their identity no matter who copies them-- some one copies us and it somehow becomes "their" thing to do and people forget that the practice was unique to our culture.. We can't even say break dancing is unique to our culture anymore because someone will get mad and say "nuh uh! everyone all over the world can do that, its not just a black thing" but where did it start? Then when we try to stand out(which is why we are called the "trend setting race" because we are always coming up with something new and fun then dumping it" people think its weird, we get bored with it, drop it, then others pick up on it and make it their thing and assimilate something that was unique to us into their culture to the point where we can't say "thats ours" anymore because now everyone wants to claim it :/ I hope the asian examples helped some people understand.. I'm not trying to be racist but I dont expect white americans(just the ones in america) to read this and understand sense they are the main people who want to try to assimilate into other cultures and mimic them and then say "its not just a mexican thing to do, everyone can do this" :/ but everyone else, I would expect them to get this because we have all experienced that and have been annoyed by not being able to separate with a unique culture because others want to copy us then not even give credit where credit is due… I know arabs understand… in latin america they have such arab and african inspired culture and the latin americans only get credit for their unique cultural musics and dances and manners to the spanish :/ so arabs go there and say "WOW, this is so much like home" and the latin americans say "nuh huh! this is mostly spanish culture" not knowing spains history and that spain was at one point taken by arabs… so they culture is arab influenced.. hope you understand. that was another example. no one give respect and credit where credit and respect are needed

  • Answer:

As far as I'm concerned, I don't think we even have a culture. I wish there was more to being black than rap music with atrocious lyrics, fattening and unhealthy "soul food", gaudy hiphop brands, ridiculous and vulgar dance, acting loud, obnoxious and ignorant in public, making fool out of yourself on some trashy TV show because you slept with an entire city of men and now have bastard child you can't afford to take care of withou somebody's hard-earned tax dollars and child support. If this is what everybody thinks being black is about, than I renounce it.

Venting your spleen will not help you or anyone. We all have our complaints but keep it to ourselves. Blacks have much to complain about but it does no good to just go on complaining. Best of luck

Not at all. I believe that America is a melting pot of different cultures living together as one.

Yes. Black culture is absolutely disgusting. Everything about it screams "criminal" and is all about whining and race-baiting. And the sagging pants has gone beyond comical....now it's just sad. Black culture is reverting people to tribal grunts, dances and mating rituals, who can no longer behave as functioning members of society. People that don't see what I'm talking about or think I'm just being 'hateful' don't live among a large black population. Come on down anywhere from North Carolina to Houston, TX (or any large city) and see for yourself. And if you are in the black community, take a step back and look at the behavior of people of all races who adhere to the black culture. And as far as sports go, I'll agree that blacks have most of basketball, but they only own the backs and wide receivers in football, everything else is shared equally with whites (like the line) or owned by whites (like QB, tight end, kicker, center, team owner). And blacks certainly don't own baseball, not at all. The few brave blacks who don't adhere to the degenerative culture of slang, sagging pants, gub'ment cheese, and dreadlocks do very well with their lives, and I admire the hell out of them, but sadly they are only a small handful of them.

I understand your point. The problem with much of the black culture now is its thuggish influence. Thats why we drop so much of the culture we have now. Plus mainstream media is teaching us how to be stupid. I love hip hop culture. Mainly because it has roots to Africa and we as Americans are forgetting that. IF you look up hip hop culture today and the hip hop culture back then, you will see a huge difference. Its kind of sad today's culture is more thuggish than back then. Rappers are always talking about money, cars, cloths and hoes. Rarely anything new.
