Why are people saying that there are more whites on welfare than blacks?

Is this fact? Let's do some investigative math to find out: population of USA: 311,591,917 according to 2010 census, 72% of the population of USA is white. So, 72% of 311,591,917 = 224,346,180 white people 37% of these 224,346,180 white people would be 83,008,086 white people on welfare. according to the latest .gov data there are only 4,600,194 people on welfare IN TOTAL. (http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/data-reports/caseload/2011/2011_recipient_tanssp.htm ) So, sorry Mirα, that was a fail statement. If you meant that 37% of people on welfare are white, then you would still be wrong. http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/data-reports/annualreport8/chapter10/chap10.htm see figure B. The last time that TANF data was published with a racial correlation was 2006 (that I can find from a .gov source; if you can prove me wrong, please do so), and in 2006 and preceding years, Blacks accounted for a bigger piece of the welfare pie than whites. I'll even give you the benefit of the doubt; we'll say for the sake of example that 37% of TANF recipients are white and 35% are black. Does that really make your case? You know that 72% of the United states population is white & 13% is black right? All things being equal, whites would consume 72% of TANF dollars and black 13%. But black's don't consume 13%; they consume 35%, meaning that they take disproportionately. The 2006 annual report to congress (http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/data-reports/annualreport8/TANF_8th_Report_111908.pdf ) says that "African-American families comprised 36 percent of TANF families, white families comprised 33 percent, and 26 percent were Hispanic." Given the 72/13 division of population, this means that any given black person is 7 times more likely to be on welfare than any given white person. So how does Smitty GONE BAD© get off saying that "Welfare was obviously invented by White people for White people."?

  I used to work w/ this and there were MANY more blacks but not anymore ... EVERY young family around here seems to be nowadays. This 'entitlement pgm' has given incentive for parents to NOT marry & most babies are born illegitimate. This is the main reason that SS is going broke ... the age group that would be coming along behind us that would be paying in (like we did for those before us) are NOT! They do not work! They are living off of welfare & food stamps & raising their kids to do the same oneday. That is why every taxpayer should be anti-Democrat! God help us all
