What are some good beauty tips/secrets?

Its 2011, don't you think its about time for black women to define their own standard of beauty?

  • Don't get me wrong, popular culture sets the president of beauty, but there is also a universal beauty worldwide that all men, no matter the race are attracted too. However within these realms, why aren't black women setting their own president of beauty, so far what they have come up with is not attractive to any race of men, more or less black men. If you want an example of a black women who set a beauty standard, it was have to be Lauryn Hill during her Fugee years. That is my ideal of black female beauty, smooth skin, immaculate teeth, long beautiful flowing hair, and nice supple lips. However black women as have most women are subscribing to a universal popular culture beauty, racially ambiguous, light complexion, long hair at any cost, even if it involves changing your hair texture and putting dangerous chemicals in your hair. Light colored eyes, hense why so many black women are running out getting colored contacts. Then you have all these extensions and different color hair colors. This shyt was never attractive to black men, hell black beauty was at its strongest during the 70's, where there wasn't any weave, and only a few perms sprinkled in. Black women need to set their own path and find their beauty. Stop letting black women say they are "thick" when in fact they really aren't, I think another yahoo answers person brought this up. That makes other black women believe the hype, when its not the hype.

@ Sydney Despite, you're racism, I totally agree about those rainbow colored wigs. and @ Maria he said Lauryn Hill during her Fugee days, that picture you posted is recently, this is what he us talking about http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://candidconvo.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/laurynhill7.jpg&imgrefurl=http://candidconvo.wordpress.com/category/fashion/&usg=__j05bf-6wBMKtK4uohvtsxGA2fB8=&h=768&w=593&sz=250&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=M_VUdhVa3dauDM:&tbnh=145&tbnw=131&prev=/images%3Fq%3DLauryn%2BHill%2Bwith%2Bthe%2Bfugees%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D578%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C228&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=479&ei=VU4iTeTvKY3QsAPhro2dCg&oei=VU4iTeTvKY3QsAPhro2dCg&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0&tx=98&ty=78&biw=1024&bih=578. I totally agree with 100% of what you are saying, but nada is going to change. People have been saying this for years and black women still confirm to that standard of beauty (I'm Guilty). Some women are too far deep into trying to achieve it now. The natural, black beauty is kind of making it's way back with some black women giving up their perms and going natural, but I honestly believe that is as far as this new standard of beauty movement is going to go, and this thick mess is getting ridiculous. People need to stop justifying their lack of being able to climb the steps without running out of breath by saying I'm thick. That's bull crap.

Listen. You're either hot, or you're not. Media doesn't define beauty. People do. There are tons of people on the media other people think are hot that I think are ugly as ****. And tons of people that people say are ugly as ****, that I think are hot. Like Angelina Jolie.

I already do. I can NEVER look White, and honestly I don't EVER want too. Black people are so diverse, we age well, and no one has our hair! The media tries to push what THEY think is beautiful, but people who can think for themselves can see what is really beautiful. Beautiful is beautiful, only an idiot would lie.

No, I don't think that races should have these strong lines of division to keep us separate. Most Black women on TV are hot, just like the White ones. I'm not seeing an issue. Lauryn Hill was cute back in the day but she would make any normal guy throw up at this point, have you seen her lately? Your idea of "female black beauty" is the same idea most men have about ANY woman's beauty. Nice skin, nice teeth, long hair, nice lips. Every guy of every race wants that already, that's not new. The whole "changing your hair texture" thing is gross and ugly to me, but hey, if that's what they want to do, let them. Black women were not put on this earth to cater to what Black men want to look at. Yep, I think weaves that don't match a woman's hair texture are ugly, I think perms hardly ever look good, I think lightening your skin is wack, I think multi-colored hair extensions should be banned from humanity. I don't doubt that no man alive is attracted to that. But at the same time, I think people should leave Black women alone and stop freaking nitpicking them like this. Not all Black women wear those nasty things... and the ones that do are probably too stupid to even matter in the first place! The only thing I truly can agree with you on is the whole "thick" thing. It's pathetic and it's getting out of hand.

They already did. Fat asz, foul mouth, low class. How's that working out for you, girls?

Boots Butz

lol, I thought we already did that, sir. No one else looks like our black beauties. I think it's time OTHER people acknowledge and accept us and stop giving kuddos to other races when THEY put their stamp on our fashion

Your the only black male I respect on this Ya. After reading that. Address your issue than take responsibility.

I've never been the type of Black girl you describe though, there are Black girls who aren't like the rest. I wear my hair natural a lot because I like the frizzles around my face when I put a side braid in my hair, it makes a messy/cute look and fits my style. I also like my hair out and natural but I hate the attention it brings me - people notice Black girls with big hair a lot, but I do wear that for summer a lot. I also dress around my skin color and wear mostly sundresses and things like that. I'm more just laid back in personality and clothes so weaves and stuff never fit me. Most people think I'm from the islands because of my style though. I'm just a Black beach girl, I've lived at the beach my whole life so I love my brown skin, big hair, bright colors and stuff that comes with it. I love la playa. :D
