Why do some black people crave to be mixed with other ethnicities?
-
I know people that are like this. Its like every week they come up with another ethnicity they "Found out" they're mixed with. And these are people that don't look like they're partly mixed with any other race. I know some people are mixed with other ethnicities and sometimes its not that noticeable but these people are pure black. My friend (shes black, skin color - dark chocolate ) says she is mixed with caucasian, indian, and cuban. And they ( her and her sisters ) loves to bring this up. Whenever they're having a conversation with someone, all of a sudden, " Guess what I'm mixed with". No on would ever guess that, they don't look like they have an ounce of white blood in them. Its almost like they're craving to be mixed with anything and everything. And they are not the only ones I know who are like this. Note: I am aware that black people ( african americans ) are not 100% "black".

Answer:
That is not only black people, because I know some Asian, Hispanic and even white people that do that too and it is annoying. We are ALL mixed with something nobody is 100% anything. But here is my theory...Weather they realize it or not, these people have been subjected to self hatred of themselves and of their black heritage. Some people think that being black is the worst thing in the world because of the constant stereotypes associated with being black and because statistics makes black people look like we are at the bottom of the totem pole when we are NOT and for many black women (like the sisters you mention) think that being black doesn't make you beautiful because we often here how other standard's of beauty is prized and praised instead of our own. Hence why you usually hear some black people says they are mixed with this or that because they believe if they claim or can identify themselves as another ethnicity than they are not associated with being all the way black (and all the problems and stuff that comes with it) and it makes them somewhat unique with it doesn't. Honestly, it is all psychology and sociology of how these black people and some other people perceived themselves and their culture.

I hate it when people are proud to claim rape blood, it disgusts me.

I'm really sick of this too. I see a lot of this on C&G with Black users asking questions regarding if they are "mixed" or not, then when they give a description they tell of distant relatives who were of another ethnicity. Most of them are no more "mixed" than the average Black person! I don't get it. There's nothing wrong with just being Black. The same goes for the fraction of Whites who dishonestly claim Native American ancestry (their fave tribe to claim are the Cherokees and they love asking if they can receive benefits because of this "ancestry"). Just be proud of who you are!

Its because many have been effected by the belief that to be black is the worse thing in the world. Many black people struggle with low self-esteem, some are teased for being darker, or having coarse hair texture, and some feel that saying that they are part this or that, makes them more valuable. It is sad really. It should not matter, but unfortunately, for many years in the States, black people who were more mixed got better jobs, were treated better, and were viewed as more attractive. That thinking has gotten better, but many grew up with that instilled in them.

I second "Ihateyou". My sister's husband does that. The man is 28 years old and still stalls and gets "confused" when it comes to race box of a form. He actually said "I don't know what I should put". As much as I love my Black people, I weed those people out of my life because I don't want them influencing any of the kids that are around me.

Because a lot of times they are. Ever wonder why blacks come in so many different shades and sizes, their blood is usually mixed with all kinds of stuff. So I wouldn't be surprised if in this day in age, many individuals keep coming across a new culture in their line. It doesn't matter what they look like now, they can still be mixed. I know a friend whose grandmother could pass as white because she was mixed but he is very very dark. His mother married a dark man and his skin color more so matched that line, big whoop that doesn't change the fact that he has other races in his blood and doesn't mean he should pretend to be pure just so that people like you in his own race won't judge him.
