What is the main difference between people in Los Angeles and New York?

    My, oh my. Being a former NY'r myself.. born and raised til I was about 19 years old... I have a few comments. I visited LA about two years ago, so I have a simplistic view of the people there. I noticed that in LA, the people thought about.. well.. the people ( mostly themselves). It seemed to me, and of course I may be completely wrong, but in LA, it seemed that people felt they were all hot stuff, and related to royalty. They are a very proud, yet superfiscial group. New Yorkers are the complete opposite. It is a dog-eat-dog world in NY, and when you climb up the ladder in life you tend to step on a few people along the way. In NY we always apologize for stepping on someone!! "Oops.. sorry about that.. lemme help you up... " Believe it or not, New Yorkers are very kind people, overall. We live life to the fullest with every type of person you could imagine. We are forgiving and strong. Our hearts are always open wide. When there is a disaster ( hurricane, etc ), everyone on your block usually comes out to help the other person less fortunate. We are wise beyond our years simply because of the fact that we know so many different types of people, religions, languages, traditions, colors, ideas, imaginations. We listen and give our opinons no matter how strong they may be! We have places to go, because we are forever trying to be better than the next guy. We want to do better than those who came before us. We are not self-centered the way I saw the people of LA to be. It almost looked like people in LA wanted to be 'found' by a talent scout 24/7. In NY, you tend to hear people's words rising above the noise of the city streets. There are many beautiful people in NY, so in order to be noticed, you must outwit your competition. In LA it isn't such a dog-eat-dog society because dog meat is bad for your skin, so they say. NYrs are fighters, and do what it takes to rise above average. LA are fighters, as long as they don't break a nail, cuz then it's just OVER! GASP! But.. these are just my observations.

Probably their approach to everything. East vs. West is essentially the hustle/all business approach in the Big Apple vs. the laid-back surfer-dude mentality of LaLa Land. It's not to say that one works harder than the other--it's just a perception difference. I grew up in the West and moved East a dozen years ago. It is definitely a different approach to life. Everything is older, and traditions are fairly serious business. They take many things seriously--which never seems the case in LA. Of course they do, but again it's the perception.
