  There is a "Contact Search Bar" directly on the Messenger Userface of version 8. I'm not sure about version 9 because I refuse to use it. But it only allows you to enter a SN and then IM, call, or search the web. And when you do search the web, it will not come up with a profile. I suggest you try the other ways listed below. How to search for someone: Browsing for profiles by location or interest is no longer an option but Yahoo has finally put a search link back within easy reach. It can be found in the Connections section on the main page of your profile. Look for the word 'Find' in blue. It will prompt you to enter a name or email. Real name or display name work but not SN unless it’s as an email address. Go figure. A search is only as good as the information you have to start out with.
