How can I change my name on Yahoo!?
-
I absolutely hate the name I picked for my yahoo account. The story behind it is complicated and frankly stupid but I somehow managed to puke out the name Wannabuystuff and now I can't for the life of me figure out how to change it! I want to ask question and post answers without people wondering if I'm a drug dealer! (Several people have actually emailed me such accusations, sometimes worse...) Any help would be appreciated...

Answer:
Your Yahoo ID does not show on yahoo answers unless you allow IM via your Yahoo Answers public profile and you do not allow this. You like everybody else are using a nickname or your Yahoo Profile Display name. So that nickname is what shows not your Yahoo ID. But if you do want to allow people to IM you on your yahoo answers profile and do not want your Yahoo ID to show, there is nothing you can do about that. Except if you use another yahoo account with another Yahoo ID. But it is against the rules to use multiple accounts on Yahoo Answers so do not use the other one again. Pick one and stick with it. ============ Now outside of Yahoo answers you can create an Alias and use that. But on Yahoo Answers even if you sign in with your Alias, it will still be your Yahoo ID that will show if you allow IM. HOW DO I CREATE AN ALIAS For every Yahoo! ID you can create 6 aliases. In the Messenger menu at the top of Y!M choose My Account Info and once you sign in, on the right you will see where you can create aliases. I will be posting some help links for you that will explain this in detail. One major thing that is different now is that aliases cannot have unique profiles. If you want an alias to have a profile you will have to link it to your main Yahoo ID. Only link your alias to the main Yahoo ID if you do not mind that they share a profile. You might need to exit Yahoo! Messenger before the new alias you have created becomes available in the drop down menu of the Join a room window for chat rooms or the drop down menu under Send As in the IM box. You can also choose to sign into Yahoo Messenger with your Alias instead of your Yahoo ID and then you will not have to change the name in the IM window or if you go to a chat room because it will already be set as your Alias. ********************************* This link tells you the steps to create an Alias: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger9/other/mstaprof.html?terms=create+alias PLEASE NOTE: There is a mistake on step 3 of the above link. It should instead read: Click the Edit/Create Aliases link on the right side of the page (not Edit/Create Profiles link). ********************************* How do I link my Alias to Primary Yahoo! ID?: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/alias/alias-03.html If you want to create a whole New Yahoo! ID (a new account) do so here: https://edit.yahoo.com/registration?
