How do you change your IM name?

When I im, my real name shows instead of my sign in name. How do I change it to my sign in name?

  • My sign in name is mommyof2girls80. When I enter a chat room that is the name that shows, but if someone ims me then my real name shows in the im box and not my sign in name. I don't want everyone knowing my real name. How do I change it? Thanks

    If you are using Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.249 , Click on messenger/my contact details/fill in the information you want it to say/save and close, and/or add yourself to your contacts, and go to your name and change it to whatever you want. You can also click "my profiles", then click edit on the profile you want to change, then change your ID from your name to the ID you want to use. I have the same problem..I do not want my real name showing up either...So hopefully someone out there can help both of us.. I will keep looking somewhere in the account part of messenger to fingdthe anwser for us ...GOOD LUCK! Thanks for the answer it worked for me in the profile part...
