How do you change your IM name?

How do I change my IM name so it doesn't show my real name?

  • When I send an IM it shows my first and last name in the IM box. I have tried making about five new profiles and never enter my real name....only nickname....then i make that my main (default) profile. But when I send an IM, my whole name still shows. I have tried changing it everywhere I can. On my other yahoo id though, my real name doesn't show. So somehow I have gotten it "on" and can't get it "off". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You can only control your own IM window, If you want to see nicknames then change the contact details including your profile name. (Remove your name in your profile information except the nickname.) Your Chat mate controls their IM window, So they can Edit what name they want to be displayed on their IM window by editing their contact details.
