How can I change the name that shows up on my Yahoo Profile?

How do I change my yahoo name - already tried edit/profile - still shows real name when typing?

  • I am trying to get into yahoo messenger and chat rooms without my real name showing every time I type a reply. I edited my profile so I can change that - but I caint change my real name when I type something - do I need to set up a different account?

    If you are seeing your First and Last name in your Instant Message (IM) box, you probably signed up for a Yahoo! Messenger Account using your First/Last name. They will show in the IM window when you send an IM or receive an IM from another user, unless you change it. That does not mean the other person you are chatting with can see your First/Last name. Your Contact Details must be sent to them. If you have not sent your Contact Details to the other person you are IMing with, they will see your Yahoo! Account Name (or Nickname) and not your First/Last Name. 1). Log into Yahoo! Messenger. 2). Click on Messenger. 3). Click on My Contact Details. ~If you want to have your First Name only, delete your Last name. ~If you want to use the Nickname field, delete your First and Last name and enter the name you would like to see in the IM box in the Nickname field. ~If you want only your Account ID to show, leave all fields blank. 4). Always click Apply and OK when making any changes. If you have previously sent your Contact Details to the other person, they will need to delete you from their list and re-add you in order for you name to change on their list. if you want to kill it off completely try editing your account information... http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile Once there... 1.Ignore the first instance of your Names, scroll down the page until you see Address / Contact Information, click Edit... 2. now at the top of the page should be Your Name, edit both fields 3. hit Finished, if prompted, then confirm your password, you will be redirected back to your Yahoo! Account Information page where you can see the changes, if you're happy with the results, click Finish again, then exit out of your browser and log back into Yahoo! Messenger. otherwise.. if you're after quick fix.. login to Yahoo! Messenger click on Messenger select My Contact Details at the top is Name: there are 3 fields that you need to complete to stop Yahoo! Messenger accessing the default Details stored in your Yahoo! Account information, these are... First (Name) Last (Name) Nickname put your ID in your First and Last Name fields in your My Contact Details eg in mine i have first name: bourbon last name: bee ID: bourbon bee take a little care if you remove the first and last name fields from you My Contact details, we've found that doing so can cause the information to be extracted from your Account Information. e.g if under My Contact Details if you fill in first name but don't fill in your last, you may find your last name is extracted from your Account details by default in most cases e.g Account details first name: Jack last name: Jones My Contact details first name: JJ last name: [not filled out] your requests may go out with your yahoo ID but your contact details may read as JJ (from your My Contact Details) Jones (from your Account Details) we have an article at http://www.wackyb.co.nz/Yahoo!_Messenger_version_8_Account_Information/ if you want some more information then also check out our article http://www.wackyb.co.nz/Yahoo!_First_and_Last_Name_Showing/ regarding our experience and findings. that will correct your Yahoo Messenger details.. not sure about chat as i dont use it.. but editing your account information (first option) will do that for sure :)
