How do I change my yahoo ID to a different name?

My yahoo messenger shows my real name in IM window. how can I change it on yahoo ID?

  • Since I instaled YM's new version, it shows my real name instead of yahoo! ID. Most of my friends know me by my ID and when I try to contact them, they cann't recognize me with my real name... Can anybody help me to change my apearance back to my ID please??!

  • Answer:

Hmmmm according to a previous answer it was said to change a setting on the appearance setting however mine says "show others user id or names". If you do not want your real name to show up on others messengers when you allow someone to add you or vice versa you make sure to change your name at that time. This will show that user what ever name YOU put in there for yourself. You will see this option right after you click Next for the first time. Others have the option of how to view peoples names or id's on there messenger list but if YOU put in a certain name when adding someone they will only see that name. However sometimes yahoo runs a muck and others see my real name also like when yahoo is acting up. But for the most part they do not they see my ID or what ever name I choose.

On your messenger , click on messenger at the top. then click on preferences. find appearance and click on that and at the bottom, it says show my name or my yahoo id.. click yahoo id and it will change for you. You may have to close down and restart for it to take effect..
