Answer:
It does not seem to be a hoax. A lot of people are getting them; perhaps anyone who has an adult profile. It's making its way into the news ... See link below ...

If this is real then it's funny that a company that once would not remove user created chatrooms with names like "sick men 4 preteen"(one of the reasons their user created rooms were altogether removed) would now ban adult profiles altogether. Yahoo used to be one of the coolest sites around, and I agree with adult content being marked as such but this, if real, is ridiculous!

Yahoo is deleting adult content profile period. The issue at stake here is not the picture because they not longer offer you the possibility of editing picturesand saving the profile. Now the goal is to erase the profile and the whole adult category watering down the Yahoo content to the minimum required age: 13. Is this indicative of a change in marketing? Yahoo is a "all for profit" company and Adults are a becoming a harder market. Will Yahoo now target young people? If yes, that will explain why Yahoo has decided to erase the adult content profiles, not to make it more secure, but rather to fully approach a market that right now is distant, due to high amount of adult profiles. Eliminating Adult content Yahoo will feel free to approach youngsters claiming to be a clean are, clean sexually yes, obviously, but ethically I doubt it. Remember that Yahoo sold Human right activist to the Chinese goverment in exchange of access to the Chinese market for instance, not to mention the privacy issues in our country.

Yes. Yahoo is removing the pictures from profiles marked adult, regardless of the image. They are not deleting the entire profile though.

It's probably a hoax. Grownups sometimes have more knowledge than kids that can help kids with the experiences they have had.Why delete?

Looking to be real...Soon this will be a kiddie site. Then we shall see how much money they will spend?!?!? Strongly feel that Yahoo ADULT Groups will go away very soon. Groups owners need to start ramping up their own sites and building a member list for themselfs. We did this and now have profiles, forums and live chat for our members. http://www.JPJustParties.com Check out this Blog Post from yahoo http://www.ygroupsblog.com/blog/2008/03/27/clarification-about-the-yahoo-profiles-photo-announcement/
