Someone "STOLE" my Yahoo ID while in a chat room... HELP!?
-
Someone "stole" my Yahoo ID while I was in a Yahoo chat room. The person that I was chatting with said they heard them on mike say they were going to do this... then it went blank. I lost my friends list, my groups, the group that I owned, message archives and everything else that was part of my ID. I could not find any way to access Yahoo for assistance with this. Does anyone know how people do this, and how I can get my ID and everything else back? That or how to contact someone live at yahoo to help? If so, please send a reply. I would love to hear from you, and it might prevent this from happening to someone else. THANK YOU!!!

Answer:
Ok, first, let me make a little correction. They did NOT steal your message archives. Those are stored on your computer ONLY. You can get a archive decoder to read those. However, everything else is gone. HOW TO GET IT BACK The only way to get back your ID is to go to yahoo.com, and click on "forgot my password". Fill out the information that you used to create the account. If you don't know this information, then your out of luck. Yahoo WILL NOT give you the account back unless you have this information. If you DO have the information, but it's not working, you can try calling yahoo, and tell them someone took your ID last night and changed all the information. If they look in their system and see that the information was just changed last night, and if you can give them correct infomration before it was changed, they may give your ID back. HOW do people do this? There are many ways. 1. They keep trying different passwords until they figure yours out. There are programs that do this. This is why it is IMPARITIVE that you creat a password that has letters and numbers and symbols as well as spaces. 2. You clicked on a profile link that you weren't suppose to. By doing that it sent your name and password directly to that person. 3. The person or someone sent you a keylogger in a file or pictures, etc. which will record your keystrokes and send them to the other person. 4. They info crack your ID... They keep trying different info until they get the info you used to open the account. This is why I cannot stress ENOUGH, that when you are in chat, use a name that has NO connection to ANYTHING> That has no groups That has NO email That has NOTHING!!!! That way when you lose it, or something happens, it will not affect anything else. ALSO if you want to chat in one ID, then please copy over EVERYTHING to another ID. You can copy your friends list, you can add your other ID to your group and make yourself another administrator so you can remove the other name, etc. There are safe guards, you just have to take the precautions.
