How do I change the tone of my voice?

Is the SOUND and TONE of your voice that you were born with, will it stay the same forever? Or will it change?

I mean understand that when you are a child, your voice will change when you're 18... but what I'm trying to say, is will it change when you take voice lessons?... ... !! I understand that singing technique can be improved, but will the sound and tone of your voice ever change, or is what you are born with, what you are born with, and you can improve your technique but the voice that you have will never have a change? !!

  Your singing voice can change, Look at Joaquin Phoenix's for example. He himself stated his singing voice was more choir boy until he took professional lessons and he started sounding like the deep resonating Johnny Cash. You can't change your voice though.
