How can we make a friend in yahoo to chat?

10 points: Why suddenly the "Call" button is disactived on my Yahoo Messenger, What to do to make it active?

  • I used to work with Call button as I used to voice chat with friends on Yahoo messenger. Now the Call button is greyed out. I tried: - I tried uninstalling the version of YM that I have and downloading all old and new verions of it again...but didn't work - I tried going to chat rooms : and with wonder I saw that the 'Talk' button works there so I could talk and they could hear me and I could hear them too. However, that was just for chat rooms, the 'Call' button is still greyed out when I want to voice chat with one of my contacts in my friend list. It only works in the voice chat of main chat rooms and not privates! - I tried clicking on Call Setup, and it was all ok and I could hear the testing music. - I tried checking my sound card, and it was for sure working, cause otherwise it could have not play any music, but I could hear ppl talk in the chat rooms and I could talk in chat rooms only again. So it didnt solve that problem again. _ I tried checking my microphone, and it was working in the chat rooms so it for sure doesnt have to do with that. - I tried hearing music in all other services on the internet and also on media player and it was not because of that also, as they all worked fine. - I tried changing my ISP service and it did not again change anything. - I tried checking on YM preference but it is checked on No Proxies, which it was like that before too. But I wonder what has happened that suddenly only Call button is not activated for contacts which are on my friend list, however, I used to call and have voice chat regularly in previous week. What can I do to make this work?

    Yahoo is doing a major update to the site. Many people are reporting this same problem. It is not your computer or browser. You can not fix it. This happened for 3 weeks during the July 2008 update. THen suddenly it worked again.

First of all the voice used in chat rooms is completely different than that used in IM windows or calling somebody's computer which is PC to PC calling. So testing in the Yahoo chat rooms or voice in conferences is not a test. I hope the information I give below helps. NO CALL BUTTON FOR PC TO PC CALLING IN IM WINDOW? If your contact is one of your Windows Live Messenger contacts, is using Yahoo Messenger for the Web, is using the new chat feature of Yahoo! Mail, or using a 3rd party chat client that does not support PC to PC calling, then the call button will not be available. If none of the above apply then read this: If you are using Yahoo Messenger India, then I am sorry there is no PC to PC calling option. You can see on this feature chart for Yahoo! Messenger India that it is not listed, http://in.messenger.yahoo.com/features/ . I do not know if in a conference there will be voice either because it says “where available.” Now compare the feature list of Yahoo Messenger India above with the features of the USA version of Yahoo Messenger here: http://messenger.yahoo.com/features/ . Clearly you can see that PC to PC calling and Premium voice features such as Phone Out and Phone In are part of the USA version of Y!M. Your best bet is to uninstall Yahoo Messenger through add/remove programs, navigate to Program Files open the Yahoo Folder and delete the Messenger folder. Now reboot your computer and get the full installer listed below. Please note that you might lose your local rooms for your country if you switch to the USA version. If you do not want to lose your local rooms but still want PC to PC calling then maybe also have Skype or Windows Live Messenger to use their PC to PC calling option. Though I am not sure the reason Yahoo Messenger India does not have it so am not sure if it will apply to those other instant messengers. It comes directly from a yahoo server and by-passes the web installer that most use. If on Windows Vista right click the full installer and choose “Install as Administrator”. Vista users if still unable to install it, after you download the installer, you might have to temporarily disable the User Account Control (UAC). You can easily turn it back on. On the Control Panel (Category View) choose User Accounts and Family Safety, next choose User Accounts, and then click Turn User Account Control on or off. ============= If the above does not apply to you then maybe your download or installation was corrupted and the procedure is the same.
