How secure is yahoo messenger cam?

Yahoo Messenger: When viewing someone's cam, why does expanding the cam window completely hijack your monitor?

  • Hello, I am just coming over quite the frustrating experience viewing a friend's webcam. I tried to expand the size of the cam viewing window, and the cam window expanded to take over my entire monitor, including the toolbar below. I was able to solve this problem by minimizing the window so that I could use my computer again, but when I went to restore the cam window, it went straight into the maximum size, rather than the smaller size (original size) it was before. I was able to figure out how to properly resize the window by right clicking on the cam and somehow reducing the "size" to 100%. However, shortly after playing around with the sizing to try and get an area size I wanted, my computer completely froze. So I guess my question should probably be re-phrased as "why is the yahoo messenger viewing cam such a piece of crap?" Specifically, I have the following questions: 1) Why is the default maximum camera size completely cover the monitor screen area? There is no way to access the rest of your computer except by right clicking on the mouse. This right-clicking may not be intuitive (i.e., this is frustrating) for windows users. 2) Are there inherent bugs in the viewcam that would cause it to freeze your computer? Thanks for bearing with me. I realize this is a rant but am wondering if these are issues affecting other users, and if there is anything I can do about them or not. Peace out.

  • Answer:

Full screen mode is not the default size The default size on sending webcam transmissions within yahoo messenger is the "large frame" 320 X 240 My contacts and I send the "small frame" 160 x 120 this allows a higher frame per second to be achieved and keeps away from the freeze point 0.0 frames per second We zoom up 200% on receipt of transmission using the 'Webcam' menu on the frame. By going "full screen" you probably used up the limited resources and the picture froze. You can exit full screen by hitting Esc(ape) the top left key You will have a better understanding of this if you select 'Statistics' on both 'Webcam' menus on the picture frame when you are in chat. The Messenger help has some good tips and I increased my frame rate per second by 100% by putting the webcam under VFW ( Video for Windows) control
