How do I fix this computer issue? Yahoo! Messenger?

Every time I try and download yahoo messenger i get this message: Yahoo! Messenger is unable to download files needed for installation. Please check firewall settings and retry installation. What does this mean. I have been trying to download yahoo for a month, and I dont know what to do to be able to fix it and get yahoo messenger back. Please HELP!!!!!

Start>> Display Panel>> Add and Remove Programs. Look for Yahoo Messenger and if you find it, click Remove. When the page reopens w/out Messenger on it, you'll have uninstalled whatever files were there. These files may be the reason you can't download another messenger. Very important that you Reboot your computer now. This will rid your computer of partial or corrupted files that may still be lingering. NOW try this download: http://messenger.yahoo.com/

Go to Start, click on control panel, and then click on firewall settings. When there you should be able to see an option to turn off your firewall. Do so, and once your done installing Yahoo Messenger turn back on your firewall. You don't want to leave it off too long because you could get a virus.
