What has happened to the Adult chatrooms on Yahoo?

Getting Spam and Adult Cam invites since chatting with a friend on Yahoo IM?

• Whenever I chat with a friend on his Yahoo ID, I get spam and unwanted invites to adult cams and porn sites from people I don't know. I've tried chatting with him while invisible and it doesn't seem to matter... the junky IM's and emails still come. I don't have a problem chatting with him using his other Yahoo ID, just this particular one. Could that one User ID have a virus or some kind of spyware attached to it. I know he goes in chatrooms with this ID... could this be how these "weirdos" are getting my user ID and sending me their spam? Thanks.

  Yes, the problem you described has really ratcheted up these last 4-8 months. It has to do with spy-bots infiltrating or information and it almost seems impossible to stop them from acquiring it. That's why these are two good ways of stopping the interlopers after the fact. Open Messenger and click Tools then Options, then Privacy. Open Privacy and at the very top you'll see, "Allow List", put a check mark in the square that reads, "only people on my Allow list can read and send me messages". You can click "View Now", if you'd like to see your Contact list. This can help you determine who contacts you and who doesn't. At the bottom of the page, click Apply, then OK. Now immediately restart your computer and when it reopens there won't be any problems with people not on your Contact list getting in touch. You can always go in and modify things as you see fit, too. Conversely, she can use, "Ignore Anyone not on my Yahoo Contacts" option. This setting keeps ALL that crap from hitting her inbox and she'll never have to deal with it at all. Messenger>> Privacy>> Ignore List>> fill in the box next to "Ignore Anyone not on my Yahoo Contacts". Click Apply, then OK and immediately restart the computer and those spammers will have to find somewhere else to go. *m*
