As far as I know, you can't "see" them if they are invisible (that's kind of the point of being invisible), however, you can try a few sneaky tricks to find out if they are really online. See the link below for a few of these.

go to your mail box and go to addresses next to your frndz address there will be a small smiley if dats happy dat means he or she is onlyn

Simple... Log into Yahoo! Mail http://mail.yahoo.com. Once you are logged in, click on the "Addresses" tab, and scroll throught the Messenger Contacts (you will see their ID's). If you see a dull grey smiley, then they are not online. If you see a yellow illuminated smiley, then they are truly online (unless they are using a DSL service, causing Yahoo to give them full status, even if really away).
