How do I get to Instant messenger from yahoo chat?

Instant message option in yahoo messenger is disabled. how to enable it?

• In yahoo messenger instant message option is disabled. it means when i select one of my friends name, right click on it and select 'instant message', nothing is happening...But i am able to get into any chat rooms and can able to chat publicly...when i am trying to send instant message(private message)nothing is happening...YM software reinstalled many times and different user id's also used.. can any one help to resolve this...????

  The first thing you have to do is invite people TO your messenger Contact List or Add them from your Address Book. Open Messenger and click Contacts on the toolbar, scroll to Add an Address Book Contacts and click. You can follow those prompts or you can click Import Contacts and follow THOSE prompts, the Import Contacts will bring over people from outside the Yahoo Network, while the Add Contacts will just bring those people from your Yahoo Address Book. You can also click, Add A Contact and bring over one person at a time. All these options can be found after click Contacts on your Messenger toolbar. *m*
