Why doesn't Windows Live Messenger work?

Hello. Everytime I click on Windows Live Messenger, it doesn't work. It says "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working." Please help! By the way, I can still get on Hotmail.

uninstall the program properly. take off all the components of WLM in your PC. restart computer before reinstallation of the program.
