How do I add friends on YM?

I cant add any friends on YM?

  • Every time I add them it keeps on saying "There was an error in the server while trying to add a contact. Please try again," I tried reinstalling it. But still has the same problem.. Then, when they add me they don't appear in the list or group i put them on. They just appear in the address book. I don't have maximum friends, so why does it keep happening to me? Please help!!!!!

    Thousands of users are reporting this problem. Yahoo is doing its annual maintenance on the site. You have to wait until they are done. It is not your computer.

maybe you put the wrong id of your friends that's not existing on yahoo messenger,if not,there was a problem on your installation

If this is an on going problem and have tried everything else then I suggest doing a complete uninstall of Yahoo Messenger. Don't worry you will not lose your contacts since they are not stored on your computer. But you will need to backup your message archives if you have them and want to keep them. COMPLETE UNINSTALL OF YAHOO MESSENGER Please note that doing a clean uninstall of Yahoo Messenger will erase your message archives so read here about how to copy them http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger8/messenger/mstacopyarchive.html If you are using Vista and do not know the path then do a search from the start menu for your archives. They are saved in the format YahooID.dat for example if my Yahoo ID is true_colors, it would be true_colors.dat. And you can easily find the path from there. First uninstall Yahoo! Messenger through add/remove programs. If you want to do a total clean uninstall of Yahoo Messenger then also navigate to Program Files on your hard drive and delete the Messenger folder inside of the Yahoo Folder. Follow this path (XP): My Computer>>C: drive>>Program Files>>Yahoo>>Messenger. Reboot your computer (important!). If you have a trusted registry scanner use it now. If you do not have a trusted registry scanner that you are familiar with than SKIP this step because you can screw your computer up if you do not know what you are doing. I personally use CCleaner but then I have been using it for years and know how to use the Registry scanner portion safely. Using any of these types of programs is USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Make sure you know how to create a system restore point and backup any of the Registry files it changes. Computer novices should definitely skip this step. It is important that now you reboot your computer. Now download and install Yahoo messenger again using the following link: Full Installer for Yahoo Messenger 9.0.0.2162 http://download.yimg.com/ycs/msg/dl/msgr9/us/ymsgr900_2162_us.exe ------------------------- What you can do if you just want to wait it out and see if it corrects itself is to use Yahoo Messenger for the Web and add people from there. Here is that link: http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ Just be sure to sign out of Yahoo Messenger first before signing into that web messenger or it will automatically disconnect you and give you an error message about being signed into another computer or device.
