How do I stop sharing updates?

How do I stop YIM from showing my friends my updates?

• and before you even think about answering with this, I already went to my profile page, then to the manage updates page, and unchecked the Share my updates option. Yet on YIM it still shows everybody my updates (I have myself added, that's how I know). In face it'll most likely show this in my updates as well. How do I ACTUALLY stop sharing updates? Thank you.

  These updates sometimes take a couple of days to stop going through to Yahoo Messenger once you have changed your option not to share your updates. I am afraid there is nothing you can do about the ones that have already gone through to YM and are still appearing.
