Why do you have to have XP to use MSN Messenger and not Yahoo Messenger?

I have tried to download MSN Messenger at my home computer and it tells me you have to have Windows XP. I have 2000 and don't like XP. I also have 2000 at work and I have a Yahoo and MSN account so i can us either one....but my boyfriend has MSN and not Yahoo. I wanted to communicate with him but you need to have XP to download the new version of MSN Messenger. I downloaded Yahoo Messenger on my work PC which is 2000 and it works. Why is that?

because they trying to make things extremely difficult for us ;) there is a couple of options still open for you but you're dead right about the latest versions being XP only.
