Get the firefox browser here>> http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/#feature-vsie and then Go here instead of trying to get it from the Yahoo messenger site >> http://www.freecreed.com/ymsgr-archive.html I do recommend you get the 8.1.0.421 version as it is the most stable a bug free version of messenger !! When you download it just save it to your desktop and then run the installer from there. If you have XP just double click on it to start the install. If you are on Vista you will need to Right click on it then click "Run as Administrator" to get it to install correctly.

Your question specifically refers to using specific versions of IE. I have never seen this problem before due to a IE conflict. What just happoned to me thou was I Had Windows System advance properties set to enable DATA EXECUATION PREVENTION (DEP) for ALL programs. When the install executed, it failed imediately! I was forced to enable prevention ONLY for Esential programs, then re-boot before the install would run properly.
