How to chat with people on Yahoo?

How do I delete people in my yahoo chat-enabled yahoo mail who aren't in my contacts?

• In my yahoo chat-enabled yahoo mail next to my contacts folder is a little drop-down arrow/box of people available to chat. There are different names that appear in there from time to time that I do not recognize and that are not in my contacts. (I suspect it's due to my being a member of a yahoogroup (Freecycle) that somehow they get in the drop down list -- because I started chatting with this random person and found out we were both on the same freecycle list... (?)). Anyway, how do I delete these random people and make sure that new ones do not continue to appear there? Thank you so much! :)
