How can I remove names from my messenger list?

How can I delete the names from the list of all the contacts I have made in Messenger?

• This is the list that is shown when I am in Messenger, showing my Friends List, and I then click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the "type a name or phone number" box. When this is done, there is a drop-down list of every contact I have made or tried to make. Contacts seem to be added to this list automatically. This is NOT just my "Friends List", which is a list I have chosen to create and save. I know you can delete names from the Friends List by simply right-clicking and then clicking "delete." But when you right-click on the names on this other list, NOTHING happens. I can find no way to delete names from this list. How can the unwanted names on this list, or the entire list, be deleted???

  Delete means to erase. Deleting the names would mean you wouldn't be able to talk to anyone if the person you wanted to talk to had been deleted and that person was online, but you wouldn't know because you deleted that person so you wouldn't be able to talk to that person. Which, as anyone can plainly see, means you wouldn't be using messenger to its full potential. Potential is something that is important to people all over the world in advanced countries such as Chad, Ethiopia, Nigeria and India. Another famous Indian was Crazy Horse. Hope this helps.
