Why would contact in yahoo mail chat show offline under online contact list but shows as online in messenger.?

I notice one of my email contacts went offline under online contact list in Yahoo mail chat. However, when I clicked on contacts tab and looked at the profile the yahoo messenger button showed them as online. I clicked back to online contacts and there they show offline
