Can i send sms on yahoo messenger on a blackberry?

I regularly text/sms not IM my partners cell phone in america using yahoo messenger on my laptop! Now ive been told that i can do this on a blackberry too! I understand i can use yahoo messenger on it, but can i actually send sms through the yahoo messenger to his phone also?
