How can I be added to messenger on the computer?

How did this name suddenly appear on my Yahoo Messenger?

  • Something has appeared under the name section on my Yahoo Messenger that I didn't type in or add from creating a contact from Yahoo Mail. The name as it appears is "Dummyact", the quotation marks around the name are there too. I have no idea what this could mean or who it could be. Since there are quotation marks around the name it appears first before the rest of the alphabetized name list. Also there are no contact options. The contact information is blank except for the name. I live alone and nobody has access to this computer. Yahoo Messenger was only downloaded a few months ago and I never had Yahoo Messenger on another computer. Can this be done remotely if someone has my Yahoo password? If so how can I find out? Is there a way to see when it was added? Is there a meaning to this term? The only thing I can think of that may or may not be related is yesterday I received an invitation to join a friends 360 that I haven’t accepted or rejected yet but her name is not Dummyact.

    2 things. 1. If you are unsure about the security of your PC, change the password. 2. You can simply delete the contact from your list without hurting anything. Good luck :-)

From what I have found out by Googling this problem is that it is a virus that you opened in an email. You will need to delete your address book and re-enter them. This should take care of it. To erase your address book, go to your Address book and click on Options in the right corner. You will see Erase your address book. Click on that. Just make sure you have backed up your addresses or wrote them down, or you will lose them forever.
