How could someone turn off my yahoo messenger from a different computer?

Is it possible to have your computer hacked if your chatting with someone on Yahoo Messenger?

• Well this is a several part question.The first part is whether it's possible for someone to hack into your computer if you are chatting with them on Yahoo Messenger? If so What kind of hacks can they use and what can they do on your computer? Finally Is Yahoo Messenger more vulnerable to be hacked on or are there other chat clients that are more difficult to hack someone with, or are all chat programs vulnerable to certain degree? The reason I ask this is because I've been chatting with someone on Yahoo messenger for a while off and on, and The first time I forgot how it started but somehow the subject of hacking came up because the person I spoke to said they could hack certain things and He was able to see what I was doing on other applications that were open at the time I was chatting with him. Like for instance I was typing an email so I asked him to tell me what I just wrote to prove he could do that, and He described the email almost exactly. So I was kind of shocked and actually very paranoid because I didn't knowhat else this person could do with my computer. So I stopped chatting with him until recently and even now I dont ask if he's doing any hacking, but everytime I talk to him it seems like my computer acts weird after I exit the chat program. Like error messages arise when I try to open programs.. I can't prove whether he is doing anything , but I would like to know how I can protect myself from being hacked, and whether there is a way to still chat with this person on Yahoo messenger and be safe from any hack attempts he may try.. thanks to anyone who can help.

  Sure it's possible, anything is possible when you're on line these days. But is it probable, is the real question here and I think it's very doubtful that people who really hack would mention it so casually with a stranger. It's for you to think these things through and even though I'm very careful when on line, I'm not paranoid and I also think that most people hack for monetary reasons, not just to be nosy. But hey, that's me. ~m~
