How to set up a webcam?

  • I was bought a microsoft webcam for christmas but i dont know how to set it up ! I have plugged it into computer complete with audio plugs and thats as far as I know, ( I do have msn messenger) answers please in normal english as I am new to the pc world

Plugging in the camera's USB cord at the incorrect time during the camera software installation procedure can cause various problems. To reinstall your webcam: Uninstall any existing camera installations. Click "Start," "Settings," "Control Panel," and "Add/Remove Programs." From the list, choose your webcam software and click Remove. Unplug the camera's USB cord from the computer. Reboot your computer. Insert your camera's setup/installation CD. Follow the instructions described by the camera setup program, and plug in your camera only when prompted. This is usually done after restarting your computer.

you will get one cd with webcam just put it in cd drive and install webcam drivers it will work

For installing any new hardware ( like your webcam here ) there is a driver which is included with the hardware itself. It's on a CD or a DVD ( most popular form till now ). If it is not then you can download them from the Microsoft website ( you said it's a Microsoft webcam ) from their download section.
