How do I receive instant messages?

I cannot receive instant messages from my contacts, what could be wrong?

I downloaded version 8 of messenger, since then I cannot receive see any messages from my contacts. I receive the message window but the contents are blank. I can also see my contact typing but I receive nothing. What could be wrong? I've uninstalled messenger and re-installed it, I've also checked that scripting is enabled in internet explorer. My contacts are receiving messages that I have sent to them. Proper answers please as I am stumped!

hmmmm never had that problem - but i think i would just sign up for another account - start over.... good luck with this one - wish i could help more... im stumped as well....
