On YIM,on the friends list, why does it sometimes show your avatars face,and sometimes show your real pic?

On the friends list of yahoo instant msgr. Sometimes it shows the avatar and sometimes it shows the pic you've designated to represent you. Is there something that causes it to show one over the other? Or does it just randomly do it?

You choose what you want displayed. On Messenger, click the Messenger window and select My Display Image. You can choose to display a photo or your avatar -- or no image.

If your friend prefers to choose an avatar for display, on the friend list it will be an avatar face as symbol for your friend. if your friend choose an image, on the friend list it will be an image.. if you don't want to display image, it will only be a smiley face.
