You have to have an aol account. if you have a different internet provider, you can still get an aol email account so that you can instant messenger an AOL member, it's just that AOL will charge you for that. HOw much? Probably in the vicinity of $9 per month. Other wise just convince that person to get a free yahoo or hotmail account so you can instant message on the free messenger service through yahoo or hotmail.
