Why is it that I can't send a file to a friend?

I am using Yahoo! Messenger 9, and I want to send a file to a friend who is using Hotmail. So, I go to Actions, but "Send a File" appears shaded in gray and, as if it is not available. Why does this happen? What do I need to do to be able to send files?

Answer:
Either your friend will have to get Messenger 9, or you'll have to get Hotmail/msn. They won't cross over when sending files. The same is true if one of you had Messenger 9 and the other had a different version such as Messenger 8 or 7.
