How does Yahoo! instant message work? And how do I get it on my computer?

I don't understand how it works at all. Where do I get it from?
Answer:

www.yahoo.com then click the messenger link. How it works is if you have friend with a yahoo address, click add and the thier yahoo e-mail address and yahoo will tell you when they are online or off. When they are on line you can type back and forth. If they are off line you can type them a message and they will get it when they sign in. Kind of like an internet answering machine.
