Answer:
Just go to the internet and download the version you want. I'm guessing you got version 9 and want to switch back to 8.

if you want to use the old one open/launch it from the yahoo home page "messenger" tab and that will take you to the old one, just bypass the "new offer" and click on "downloading not for you" and it will take you to the old version but it is very slow loading and very slow logging in and it takes up a new tab on the favorites bar where the stand alone one has it's own window but the old one is still there

how do i get 8.0 or 8.1 yahoo messenger
sible
Messenger 9 for Vista users is no longer supported by Yahoo. And a note for XP users with 9, Mess 9 has many unsolved problems and missing features that messenger 8.1 or 8.0 has. Plus now the updated Windows Firewall will not let Messenger download correctly. And is causing 9 users to have problems now.. The only option that might help is going to the control panel and turning off the firewall to download and install then turning it back on.Then click on windows fire wall, Exceptions tab. make sure messenger is checked,if not listed then add it to the list.then click save. .If the fire wall still causes problems, then revert back to 8.1 or 8.0 these and all versions of messenger can be found here; http://www.freecreed.com/ymsgr-archive.html You need to remove version 9,or present version, 1st to get another version to work. To remove Messenger version Use Unwise located middle of page of Messenger Folder.Make sure Automatic is checked! then continue to uninstall..Or use control panel ,Vista-program features or XP-add/remove this is the 2nd best way. Your contacts are stored online Start>my computer>c:drive>program files>yahoo>messenger When you are working on your computer and installing a new program, the installation suddenly fails. Now you are left with a partly installed program. You try to install the program again, but you are unsuccessful. Or, maybe you have problems trying to remove an old program because the installation files are corrupted. You may need to use the Windows installer cleanup utility to do it completely if it has already been uninstalled. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 #1 problem when trying to install.when you get error that reads "wrong line parameter" FIX: Get the most recent version of the Windows Installer -- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en If you still use SP1 or SP2,Consider upgrading to SP3 which will include a lot of other updates which you may need. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

If you don't install the 9.0 messenger correctly, it will not work. It has to be,,,Run as the Administrator. I think if you Right click on the downloaded .exe after you download it, you will be able to Run as Administrator. If that is all too confusing you can,,, Do this,,,, Click on Start Button/ Settings/ Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs. DUMP anything that says Yahoo Messenger (toolbar, address book etc etc etc) they will be listed at the bottom of that window if there are any), and go to this website,,,,, http://www.oldversion.com Scroll down (at the bottom of the page on the Left is Yahoo Messenger). Versions 3-8 are there to choose from. I PERSONALLY SUGGEST 7.0. BE SAFE Cheri PS. No, you will NOT lose any Contacts from a previous version you ran, they are all saved on Yahoos Sever and will transfer to whatever version you install.

Uninstall the new version first. The old one wont install properly with the new one still installed. http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/tech/2433/ This is the version I always recommend, 8.1.0.421, as it is very stable and most recent besides 9 - meaning its compatible with even older versions and has all the bells and whistles. Well, all the older bells and whistles. 9 has some new ones, lol. And 9 doesnt like to communicate with 8.1.0.421, but all the more reason NOT to have 9. And the link I gave you IS a version for Vista, I made sure to throw Vista into google.
