How do you chat using the new Yahoo! Messenger 8.0?

When using Yahoo Mail how do you sign out of Yahoo Chat (Yahoo Messenger) permanently?

  • At the upper left corner of Yahoo Mail is a round ball, when I click on that there's a drop down and I have signed out. However, I continue to receive pornography messages from random people. I hate Yahoo Messenger. I just want email only. No chat whatsoever. Arrgg!!! Any help would be much appreciated!

    Signing out should keep the setting at least that's what is normal for me unless I happen to click on the lightning bolt next to contacts. As far as blocking up in the left hand corner of mail should say Options, click on it and in the drop down menu choose Messenger Options (it's to the right of the bubble you click on to sign out of messenger). In the box that appears click on Privacy. There are two options the top to block all people not on your contact list while the bottom blocks particular users. You can type in the messenger name in the box that appears below the lower option. Click Ok
