Why cant i install an older version of windows live messenger instead of windows live messenger beta?

i use to have windows live 9.0 (vista) then i updated to the beta version, but decided i don't want it, so i uninstalled it, tried to get an older version back, and now if i try and sign in, it tells me to upgrade to the beta version, is there a way that i can get an old version back?
