Where is the message archive stored?

Message Archive or Chat History?

  • I have yahoo messenger installed on machine 1 and machine 2. In both machines I have chatted with [email protected]. Now I need to see the message archive of all the chats in both machines. Currently it is not possible because both chat histroy is in different machine. But now yahoo is released web message with message archive stored in yahoo server. Is there any tool to merge both chat history to 1 single chat history

  • Answer:

currently there is no way to merge you desktop archives with the new based ones, you can merge your two desktop archives though... but if you maintain using both PCs you will need to do this regularly to keep them in sync. C:\ Program Files\ Yahoo!\ Messenger\ Profiles \yahoo ID \ Archive\ Messages or if you are using windows vista C:\Users\WindowsUsername\ AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ Program Files\Yahoo!\ Messenger\Profiles\Yahoo!ID (remove the spaces from the path above :) just grab copies of both (backup first) and copy one archive to the other and vice versa... please be aware that this will ovewrite any conversation held on the same day on different PCs. e.g if you chatted on PC1 on monday using YahooID: hello, and also on PC2 on monday using YahooID: hello then the archives will overwrite not merge but if you chatted on PC1 on monday and PC2 on tuesday then those archives can be happily merged :)
