I have the same problem but I thing it is because of the firewall who changes the proxy everytime so you should go to messenger)preferences)connection then change the setting of the firewall try the four possibilities because it depends on your location and firewall type ...

if you have sbc/yahoo! the browser has yahoo msg. on it! you may need to sign on at the browser that has it! where it says messenger! click it, then click preferences! then click connections! and go from there!
