How To Upgrade Yahoo Messenger?

My friend cannot upgrade for some reason. He can only use the old version without voicemail. He keeps trying to upgrade to the newest versions but it just won't work. He has tried uninstalling the old one and installing the new one but it never works no matter which one he tries. The ONLY one that works is the old one. Any tips?

He probably needs to go to microsoft update site and download a newer version if Internet Explorer
