I recieve short offline messages from one of my contacts that show up as soon as i am on computer how do I do?

I have recieved off line messages, short messages that come in a box like just one line messages. The box is there when I turn on my compute. how do I send these sort of messages to one of my contacts. It says offline messages and like I said they are short messages and when I get done reading them and i close the box all the messages are automatically deleted. I just want to find out how I can do this. Does anyone out there knowl. i have searched for an answer and have still not found one.
