I don't want SMS mode; limited characters per message. How do I shut off SMS, so I can write longer messages?

On SMS, I am allowed 142 characters, including spacing and emoticons, and I keep having to break up my messages. I hate that, and I want to shut off SMS. How do I do it?

Answer:
Sorry Dear, it is unfotunate But YOU CANNOT shut that off. The actual limit is 160 characters . this limit is set. On Yahoo Messenger it is 150 characters. (you can see it on the bottom of window) I found the Proof as the why this exists this way... (at least 1,000 articles lol) HERE IS WHY TEXT MESSAGING IS SET AT 160 CHARACTERS Alone in a room in his home in Bonn, Germany, Friedhelm Hillebrand sat at his typewriter, tapping out random sentences and questions on a sheet of paper. As he went along, Hillebrand counted the number of letters, numbers, punctuation marks and spaces on the page. Each blurb ran on for a line or two and nearly always clocked in under 160 characters. That became Hillebrand's magic number -- and set the standard for one of today's most popular forms of digital communication: text messaging. "This is perfectly sufficient," he recalled thinking during that epiphany of 1985, when he was 45 years old. "Perfectly sufficient." http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2009/05/invented-text-messaging.html (I say he is wrong!) SMS was designed to deliver short bursts of data such as numerical pages. To avoid overloading the system with more than the standard forward-and-response operation, the inventors of SMS agreed on a 160-character maximum message size. But the 160-character limit is not absolute. Length limitations may vary depending on the network, phone model and wireless carrier. Some phones don't allow you to keep typing once the 160-character limit is reached. You must send your message before continuing. However, some services will automatically break any message you send into chunks of 160 characters or less. So, you can type and send a long message, but it will be delivered as several messages. >>ANOTHER ARTICLE http://knuckleskin.blogspot.com/2007/02/why-sms-are-limited-to-160-characters.html There are ways that you can get around texting on your phone if you are sitting at home and you want to make it easier and that is to send from the Computer to the other person that may be mobile. You can Send from Yahoo Messenger and if you want to test this, add your self to your Messenger and then put in your phone number and send a message then hit reply You will see a 92466(000) and 3 digits- that is your Unique yahoo id number but when you return the message it will show up as [email protected] (cellphone company id ok sending to anyone else will return the UserID you sent to originally. There are some texting sites you can send from http://www.joopz.com

that used to happen to me, but it was an old phone. chances are that if yours is an older phone too than you wont be able to have them unlimited without breaking it up. you should consider buying a new one... they dont do that
