How do I add icons and pictures to my yahoo messenger account?

I have yahoo messenger 8.1, and i can't figure out how to put a picture or anything on it! I put the memory card in the computer, I view my pictures, I copy a picture I want as my avatar thing, but I don't know what to do! I do the same with icons off of 123icons.com and i still can't figure it out!!!

Put the pic you want in a folder on your desk top. go to preferences, display image and click there. Follow the directions there. When you click browse choose the folder you have the pic in and click on the pic to put it on messenger.
