How do I switch the gender of my avatar?

My avatar is the wrong gender... why?

• I'm a girl, and even though I've done the whole Preferences Change my avatar's gender Switch gender to female ... it still shows as male in my Messenger window. I've gone back and forth a couple times, and it always shows as female. What gives, and how can this be fixed??
