How do I change the displayed name in Yahoo messenger?

How do you change the displayed name on Yahoo messenger?

  • Currently everyone sees me as my yahoo ID. How do I change that to something else?

  • Answer:

1.Click the Messenger menu and select My Contact Details. 2.Fill in BOTH the First and Last name you’d like others to see for you in Yahoo! Messenger. 3.When you're finished, click Save & Close. Important: If you leave your First name blank here, the first and last names you entered under “Address/Contact Information” in your ID’s account details (when you originally set up the ID) will be used. The same is true of your Last name: if you leave it blank here in Yahoo! Messenger’s Contact Details window, Yahoo! Messenger will grab both the first and last name from the information you initially stored for this Yahoo! ID. Your Old Name Setting Will Continue To Show For Anyone Who Already Added You Anyone who already added your older name information to their Messenger List or Address Book will continue to display that information in their Messenger Lists and Address Books. If you want them to see your ID differently, you should request that they remove you from their Messenger Lists and/or Address Books, and then Add you again as a new contact with your new information. Changing Your Name Display In Yahoo! Messenger Will NOT Affect The Display Of Your Name Anywhere Else Across Yahoo! Changing your name in Messenger will not affect how your name appears in Yahoo! Mail, for example.

Please note that in My Contact Details that was already discussed, you can also put in a Nickname. Also people can choose how to see people on their messenger list. First name, last name or nickname is one option and Yahoo ID is the other option. You cannot do anything about it if somebody chooses in Preferences to see Yahoo ID rather than the other option. ======================== You can also choose to create an Alias if you do not want anybody seeing your Yahoo ID. HOW DO I CREATE AN ALIAS For every Yahoo! ID you can create 6 aliases. In the Messenger menu at the top of Y!M choose My Account Info and once you sign in, on the right you will see where you can create aliases. I will be posting some help links for you that will explain this in detail. One major thing that is different now is that aliases cannot have unique profiles. If you want an alias to have a profile you will have to link it to your main Yahoo ID. Only link your alias to the main Yahoo ID if you do not mind that they share a profile. You might need to exit Yahoo! Messenger before the new alias you have created becomes available in the drop down menu of the Join a room window for chat rooms or the drop down menu under Send As in the IM box. You can also choose to sign into Yahoo Messenger with your Alias instead of your Yahoo ID and then you will not have to change the name in the IM window or if you go to a chat room because it will already be set as your Alias. ********************************* This link tells you the steps to create an Alias: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger9/other/mstaprof.html?terms=create+alias PLEASE NOTE: There is a mistake on step 3 of the above link. It should instead read: Click the Edit/Create Aliases link on the right side of the page (not Edit/Create Profiles link). ********************************* How do I link my Alias to Primary Yahoo! ID?: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/alias/alias-03.html
